ABOUT
Mr. Olen Aasen is a corporate and securities lawyer with a diverse experience in mining, renewable energy, aviation and technology. Mr. Olen Aasen began his career as an associate in the securities and business law group of Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP where he gained experience with respect to public companies, capital markets, securities laws and the natural resources sector.
MR. OLEN AASEN’S SELECT EXPERIENCES INCLUDE:
- Leading the completion of over $1 billion in equity, debt, royalty and stream financings including private placements, structured debt financings, and short form or shelf prospectus offerings.
- Leading the completion of numerous M&A transactions and reverse-takeover transactions.
- Negotiating with the US Environmental Protection Agency and local stakeholders to achieve a solution that led to the withdrawal of an appeal, and the final issuance of, an Underground Injection Control Permit for the Gunnison Copper Project in Arizona, USA.
- Negotiating and drafting of numerous commercial agreements including joint venture agreements, asset purchase agreements, licensing agreements, royalty agreements, confidentiality agreements and various agreements with service providers.
- Completing the listing of several companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Cboe Canada, TSX Venture Exchange and Canadian Securities Exchange.
- Coordinating with U.S. counsel on the completion of several U.S. securities registration and listing on United States stock exchanges.
- Facilitating Board meetings, including preparation of materials and attendance at all Board meetings to provide legal advice, business and strategy recommendations.
- Assisting senior management with project management, including developing and executing project plans, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and delivering desired results on time and on budget.
- Obtaining from the Federal Government an unprecedent exemption from the foreign control requirements for a Canadian airline, ultimately leading to a change in the law for all Canadian airlines.
- Drafting or reviewing all continuous disclosure documents including AIFs, Information Circulars, MD&A, Material Change Reports and Technical Reports.
- Managing human resources matters including the hiring and termination of Canadian and U.S. employees, along with the creation of various human resources policies.
- Advising on privacy and data protection matters in regulated environments.
- Assisting with investor relations matters including responding to investor and media inquiries, drafting press releases and reviewing corporate materials such as websites and corporate presentations.
- Managing litigation and dispute resolution matters in conjunction with external counsel.
- Managing external counsel relationships to control costs and ensure objectives are achieved.

Mr. Olen Aasen began his career as an associate in the securities and business law group of Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP where he gained experience with respect to public companies, capital markets, securities laws, and the natural resources sector.
Mr. Olen Aasen was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2007. Mr. Olen Aasen obtained his J.D. from the University of British Columbia in 2006 receiving numerous scholarships and awards including Law Foundation Scholarship; Panvini Scholarship in Law; Thorsteinssons Prize in Taxation I; David Roberts Prize in Legal Writing; and Law Students Legal Advice Program Pozer Award. Before attending law school, he did his undergraduate studies in the finance program at the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business and was placed on the Dean’s Honour Roll. Mr. Olen Aasen was appointed to the 2016 Legal 500 GC Powerlist for Canada.
